Investment Insights 2017 Outlook
Overview
The U.S. president-elect’s victory and the Italian’s declination of reform in the waning months of 2016 was a final crescendo for a central theme of 2016, populism. Additionally, stresses in regions like the Middle East and East Asia were accompanied by growing inequality and unrest, while concerns over the refugee crisis and a snowballing income gap were key drivers in the result of the Brexit. Despite news headlines on these topics injecting volatility into the markets this year, the U.S. equity markets have remained surprisingly resilient. Unfortunately, the outlook is different for the equity market and the fixed income markets in 2017.
