Financial Markets Monitor 2016 Q3

Overview

Chief Investment Officer David Donabedian recaps the first half of 2016 and provides an outlook for economic activity and financial markets in the third quarter of the year. The issues that will have the most impact on the financial markets over the next 12 months are:

  • U.S. economic growth mediocre, but outperforming most of the world;
  • federal reserve on hold, ECB and BOJ likely to provide more stimulus;
  • politics likely to be a growing source of market volatility through November; and
  • modestly positive U.S. equity view based on better earnings and lack of attractive alternatives; downgraded assessment of international equities.
