Justin Hugon, Ph.D.
Particle Physicist, Family Leaders Council Member

Justin Hugon grew up in Duncan, Oklahoma. Life-long learning is one of Justin’s joys and chief values. Justin studied physics at Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee, and then went on to do his Ph.D. in physics at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. His Ph.D. work was in experimental particle physics, studying the Higgs boson with the Large Hadron Collider at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) in Geneva, Switzerland. In the process of getting his Ph.D., he spent two years living in France, right across the border from Geneva, and loved getting to live and work with people from all over the world. Playing a small part in the discovery of the Higgs boson is one of the highlights of his life. After graduating with his Ph.D., while doing his postdoc at Louisiana State University, Justin engaged in the testing and construction of prototypes for the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment which will shoot a high-intensity beam of neutrinos from Fermilab, outside of Chicago, Illinois, through the earth to a detector deep in a mine in South Dakota. Justin then transitioned to a teaching-focused Visiting Professorship at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, Georgia, where he taught a diverse range of physics courses and undertook the transition from all in-person to all online coursework due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Subsequently, Justin moved from Atlanta to Edmond, Oklahoma, to be closer to his family. Justin is currently serving as a member of the Family Leaders Council and chair of the Family Communication Committee, as well as teaching his 2 year-old son English (speech and letters), mathematics (counting!), and classical physics (throwing balls and splashing water at mommy at bath time!). He hopes to be able to apply his science and education background to improve the Family Enterprise and continue teaching physics in the Oklahoma City area.
