OPPORTUNITY

Reporting to the President, this is a compelling opportunity for an experienced finance and accounting leader to play a critical role in overseeing financial strategy, accounting, tax compliance, and reporting for a multi-entity family office. The Vice President - Finance & Accounting (VP F&A) will be a strategic partner to the family and senior leadership, ensuring the integrity of financial operations and supporting long-term financial planning for the family office and affiliated entities.

The firm’s holdings span real estate development, investment management, and philanthropic initiatives, requiring a sophisticated financial leader capable of navigating complex structures and diverse asset classes. This individual will lead accounting, financial reporting, estate planning coordination, risk management, and operational efficiencies.  The role requires deep expertise in accounting, financial reporting, treasury management, and financial analysis, as well as the ability to manage a team and work collaboratively across business functions.  The role will require the individual to coordinate closely with outside tax and legal advisors.

As a key executive within the organization, the VP F&A will oversee a team of accounting professionals and coordinate with external advisors to optimize financial systems and reporting. This role offers a high degree of financial management leadership and the opportunity to drive financial strategy and operational improvements within a complex and significant family office setting.

The ideal candidate will be a highly skilled accounting professional with a strong technical background in accounting, financial reporting, and financial planning. A background in tax will be considered a plus. A strategic mindset, strong leadership abilities, and a commitment to process improvement and operational excellence will be critical to success in this role.

POSITION SUMMARY

This VP F&A will play a critical role in overseeing accounting, tax compliance, and financial reporting for the family office and associated entities. The VP F&A will be responsible for managing a team of professionals and coordinating with outside advisors. The position offers the opportunity to be strategic and participate across business functions but will also require a detailed and thoughtful approach to accomplish the day-to-day tactical needs of the company.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Cash and treasury management including cash projections and optimization of the cash balances.
    • Create and manage 12 month rolling projections.
    • Review and approve all cash transactions.
    • Monitor overall cash balances and provide cash forecast reports weekly.
    • Working with the investment team and outside advisors to optimize yields on cash.
  • Lead the financial reporting responsibilities of the family office companies.
    • Includes the financials of the management company, real estate assets, real estate business, investment accounting and foundation accounting.
    • Create reports that are informative for various users.
    • Present financial reports to ownership and other members of management.
  • Lead the annual budgeting processes.
  • Coordinate with external payroll provider and HR and directly handle confidential transactions.
  • Lead tax and estate matters including:
    • Coordinate with outside tax firm for all tax planning and tax compliance needs, including overseeing the family office’s internal tax compliance process;
    • Coordinate with tax and legal advisors and oversee trust accounting and trust distributions;
    • Partner with the General Counsel and external advisors for estate planning and estate administration;
    • Optimize financial transactions through tax analysis.
  • Optimize software used across the organization.
  • Oversee the overall design of internal controls and monitor that controls are working as designed.
  • Participate in business planning and project feasibility analysis.
  • Coordinate with other internal department heads to ensure overall needs are met.
  • Oversee the insurance renewal process.
  • Participate in management meetings, as necessary.
  • Work closely with the family and team members on key initiatives for enhancements with investment reporting and real estate accounting.
  • Other special projects as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities will include:

  • Supervise a team of accountants and outsourced advisors.
  • Recruit, interview, hire, and train new staff.
  • Oversee the daily workflow of the department.
  • Provide constructive and timely performance evaluations.
  • Handle discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
