Staff Accountant

Provides accounting support to the Family Office.  Completes special projects as needed.  Maintains a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality at all times.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare journal entries and post cash transactions to general ledgers for all electronic funds transfers.
  • Prepare and coordinate investment capital calls to meet the capital call deadlines.  Includes setting up Standing Letters of Authorization for on-going capital commitments and coordinating internal authorizations for new investments.
  • Reconcile annual tax basis and book basis investment accounts (approximately 200) for external investments.  Post investment capital calls and distribution/redemption receipt transactions to general ledgers.
  • At the direction of the VP, Tax, prepare all quarterly estimated tax payments and record appropriate journal entries.  Track and report on all estimated tax payments ensuring receipt by tax authorities.  Follow up on exceptions as necessary.
  • Perform month end bank account reconciliations and prepare close packages. 
  • Maintain detailed accounts and records for art investments.  This includes pictures, cost basis, location of the artwork and up-to-date insurance.
  • Maintain excellent working relationships with external and internal contacts demonstrating professionalism, courtesy and respect at all times.  External contacts may include law offices, investment firms, accounting firms and other professional service organizations.  Internal contacts may include executives and other staff. 

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of accounting, transactions, and processing experience in a corporate or professional office environment required. 
  • Experience working with family office and/or high net worth individuals and/or the investment community is highly desirable.
  • Working knowledge of tax preparation and reporting is highly desirable
  • Demonstrated ability for accuracy and thoroughness in work.
  • Intermediate to Advanced proficiency with MS Office applications including Word, Excel and Email.  
  • Associate’s degree (A.A.) from a two-year college or technical school required.  Bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of double entry accounting and balance sheet and income statement account relationships as evidenced by 5 years of experience in a related function.  Knowledge and experience to include:
  • Cash basis accounting. 
  • General Ledger, Accounts Receivable and/or Accounts Payable 
  • Working with bankers to facilitate cash management, wire transfers and other cash related activities, and the ability to effectively resolve investment or other cash needs.
  • Performing routine analysis of numbers and financial data. 
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks (Enterprise) or other automated accounting software is highly desirable.
