OPPORTUNITY
Reporting to the CEO, this is a compelling opportunity for an experienced investment professional to play a key role in managing and expanding a multi-asset portfolio for a private, family-owned investment firm. The Senior Portfolio Manager will work closely with the CEO, President, and a small team of investment professionals to implement and oversee the firm’s investment strategy, ensuring strong returns and prudent risk management across a diversified portfolio.
The firm’s portfolio spans private equity, credit, real estate, and venture capital, encompassing both fund investments and direct investments. In addition, the Senior Portfolio Manager will have exposure to fixed income, public managers and other asset types. This individual will lead rigorous investment due diligence, source new opportunities, and provide strategic recommendations to ownership. The role requires a keen analytical mindset, deep expertise in private investments, and the ability to navigate complex financial landscapes.
As a leader within the investment team, the Senior Portfolio Manager will also oversee day-to-day portfolio management, ensuring accurate performance reporting, valuations, and benchmarking. They will participate in internal investment meetings and family board discussions, providing insightful analysis and recommendations. POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Portfolio Manager is a key member of the family office investment team and will work closely with the CEO, President, and a small investment staff to produce excellent investment returns from a diversified portfolio. This individual will also be responsible for implementing and overseeing the investment strategy and portfolio of the family office companies.
They will actively source new investment opportunities and lead a rigorous due diligence process of all new potential investments from the initial screen to the final presentation to ownership. It is expected this role will focus primarily on private investments across a number of different asset classes, including private equity, credit, real estate, and venture capital across both funds and direct investments, although they will likely play a role in investing in public equities and hedge funds.
This role will be responsible for coordinating the day-to-day workflow of the investment team, including managing and monitoring all existing investments. This role will also involve working closely with others to supervise performance reporting, valuations, and benchmarking for the entire portfolio, as well as prepare and present well-reasoned investment conclusions to a variety of audiences in numerous formats.
The role is expected to spend time researching and analyzing the investment landscape to identify trends, themes, and investment opportunities. This individual will maintain ongoing relationships with key investment partners, grow their network, and represent the family office professionally in a variety of circumstances.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Work with CEO, President and staff on the family office’s overall portfolio management;
- Provide research, financial modeling, and analysis on a variety of investment types;
- Evaluate investment opportunities and make investment recommendations;
- Conduct fundamental research/due diligence and write research reports;
- Deeply understand, manage and monitor existing investments, meet with 3rd party investment teams, review investment reports and performance, and work diligently for the best investment outcome;
- Lead internal investment meetings;
- Join and participate in family board meetings to make investment recommendations and provide reporting and benchmarking performance data, as needed;
- Work with other departments to oversee portfolio reporting, benchmarking and risk monitoring;
- With the investment team and third-party advisors, participate in the implementation and refinement of entity specific asset allocations and investment policy statements;
- With the investment team, build upon the practices, processes, procedures and structures in place to build a best-in-class investment function, including:
- Benchmarking and performance reporting;
- Investment due diligence and approvals;
- Cash management, cash flow and liquidity planning;
- Risk management;
- Investment operations.
- Source new investment opportunities and maintain a strong investment network (local & national);
- Research items as requested by the CEO and others;
- Collaborate with other family office staff to effectively manage the portfolio;
- Carry out other duties and special projects as assigned and/or requested;
- Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Recruit, interview, hire, and train new staff;
- Oversee the daily workflow of the department;
- Provide constructive and timely performance evaluations;
- Handle discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
