Senior Investment Analyst - Single Family Office

Job Description

Brush Street Investments, LLC is the investment arm of a well-established family office based in Detroit, Michigan that serves the 3rd through 6th generations of a globally recognized and ever growing family.

Brush Street is seeking to hire a Senior Investment Analyst to ensure that the best interests of the entire family are met regarding the management of their private investment capital.  The Senior Investment Analyst will interact extensively with the CEO, COO and Investment Committee of the family office and will be part of a team that meets regularly with investment consultants, external money managers and financial institutions to support the family office’s investment strategy and ongoing investment management activities.  The ideal candidate will be ambitious, inquisitive, and have a strong passion for investments and capital markets.


Primary Responsibilities

The role of a Senior Investment Analyst will involve a variety of investment related responsibilities, including in-depth investment research and due diligence across a myriad of asset classes and investment structures (e.g. cash, fixed income, public equities, hedge funds, private equity, real estate), investment monitoring, performance and risk measurement, manager pipeline management, coordination with existing managers and underlying investment sponsors and overall supervision of investment of investment analyst(s).

Investment Manager Due Diligence

  • Working closely with CEO and COO, conduct initial due diligence across asset classes, considering both the public and private markets, and where appropriate, certain direct investments
  • Contribute to the establishment of standard due diligence procedures for Brush Street Investments, LLC
  • Author internal investment committee and client facing narratives and recommendations with respect to managers and strategies under consideration
  • Conduct research and gather intelligence regarding investment management and strategy themes/trends

Investment Monitoring

  • Monitor existing managers and conduct/lead periodic manager/fund conference calls and site visits
  • Contribute to the production of investment communications and updates on recommended, approved and implemented managers
  • Create weekly/monthly flash reports/updates to monitor investment managers and their key performance indicators

Performance and Risk Measurement

  • Preparation and oversight of ad-hoc, monthly, quarterly and annual performance, risk and attribution reports and presentations for CEO/COO, our client-families and the Investment Committee

Pipeline Management

  • Work w/ CEO and COO to source and maintain competitive array of new investment managers and strategies via the leverage of a professional network, existing family office client relationships and centers of influence
  • Track vetting and ultimate conclusions drawn from new managers and strategies under consideration
  • Develop a professional network through meetings with managers, attendance at conferences and participation in industry peer groups (Family Office Exchange, etc.)

Investment Manager Liaison

  • Serve as a key point person with existing and prospective money managers
  • Liaise w/ third party investment consultants, broker-dealers and other investment institutions serving the family office

Supervision and Collaboration

  • Serve as a supervisor and mentor to investment analyst(s)
  • Coordinate with other internal family office professionals, including relationship managers, tax professionals and other staff, to support investment initiatives


Position Qualifications & Requirements 

  • 5-7+ years of investment manager research and due diligence within a family office, RIA, money manager or other investment institution focused upon wealth management
  • Bachelor’s degree in business (finance, accounting or economics) preferred
  • MBA, CFA or CFA candidate a strong plus
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office solutions, as well as investment applications that would include Zephyr, PerTrac and Morningstar
  • Accuracy and attention to detail are critical to success
  • Strong financial/analytical skills and understanding of financial concepts are paramount
  • Effective communication skills, both in oral and written form
  • Knowledge of asset allocation and portfolio construction, including an understanding of the myriad of investment solutions and structures that include mutual funds, exchange traded funds, separately managed accounts, limited partnership structures, etc.
  • Ability to extrapolate experience from one investment sector to another and think strategically to develop new investment ideas across the entire portfolio spectrum
  • Adherence to family office confidentiality
