Position Summary
The Managing Tax Director role requires an experienced and detail-oriented professional with exceptional organisational skills, a proactive approach, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment. The individual in this position must demonstrate strong communication skills and a commitment to working collaboratively with team members to achieve shared objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Reviewing, overseeing, and preparing complex income tax returns, including Corporations, Partnerships, and Individual filings.
- Ensuring quality control review for all financial statements.
- Managing the planning, compliance, and facilitation of international tax matters, including waivers and tax returns.
- Overseeing and reviewing estimated tax payments.
- Developing, implementing, and maintaining financial and tax reporting policies and procedures.
- Providing oversight and review of:
- Year-end shareholder bonus processes.
- Tax preparation workpapers and investment reconciliations.
- Calculation and distribution of W-2s and 1099s.
- Tax correspondence and management of tax audits.
- Quarterly and annual payroll tax returns.
- Comprehensive tax planning strategies.
- Facilitating entity formation and dissolution processes, including obtaining organisational documents, FEIN applications, and required filings.
- Training and mentoring team members on best practices in tax compliance and reporting.
- Filing annual reports, franchise tax returns, and other required state filings.
- Preparing and reviewing client invoices for tax services.
- Supervising team members in supporting and managing client operations.
- Executing special projects and assignments as directed by leadership.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Extensive experience preparing and reviewing various types of tax returns, as well as financial statement reviews.
- Proficiency with financial and tax software, including QuickBooks, Excel, and CCH.
- Strong academic background with a BS in Accounting, Finance, or Economics. Advanced degrees such as a Master’s in Taxation or MAcc are preferred.
- Active CPA licence required, with preference given to candidates licenced in TN or CA.
- 15+ years of experience in tax and accounting services, including recent experience serving high-net-worth individuals and managing complex tax matters.
- 10+ years of leadership experience in a family office, business management firm, public accounting firm, or comparable environment.
- Proven ability to commute to and work on-site at the office.
