IT Manager

Overview of the Company:

AFO Capital, Ltd. (“AFO”) is the family office for a Fort Worth-based family which was founded in 2007 when the family’s business was sold.  The office is responsible for providing investment management, wealth management, and other related services to the members of the family, their various investment partnerships and trusts, and their private foundation.  Some of the key functions of the office include: investment and portfolio management; accounting, record keeping and financial reporting; coordination of tax planning and trust and estate planning; and coordination of charitable activities.

Overview of the Position:

AFO is seeking a full-time Technology Manager whose primary responsibility will be to oversee the company’s information technology infrastructure, both hardware and software, and to ensure it integrates with the business objectives of the organization.  They will work closely with decision makers across the organization to identify, recommend, develop, implement, and support technology solutions for all aspects of the organization.  The Technology Manager will provide a comprehensive information security and risk management program to ensure the security of all data and the appropriate handling of all private information.  They will provide direction and support for all technology users, including employees and clients. The Technology Manager will report to the General Counsel/Director of Operations.

Responsibilities:

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Oversees all vendor relationships and contracts, including contract negotiations alongside the General Counsel, for third-party technology and service providers
  • Manages implementation process for new software and other technology solutions to be deployed in the office
  • Provides ongoing maintenance of all technology deployed in the office
  • Ensures maximum utilization and integration of existing technology systems
  • Identifies new technology solutions and enhancements to improve operational efficiency and to keep all information secure
  • Researches potential technology solutions and implementations in support of new initiatives and opportunities
  • Creates and maintains a secure file-sharing system for all employees and clients
  • Oversees provision of end-user services for employees and clients, including help desk and technical support services; provides an initial response for troubleshooting and works in conjunction with the outside IT service provider, if necessary, to solve IT issues
  • Develops, implements, and oversees all IT policies and procedures, including those for data, information, and cyber security, business continuity and disaster recovery, onboarding/offboarding of employees, and employee usage, awareness, and training
  • Creates and maintains hardware and equipment replacement policies and procedures
  • Develops and monitors an annual IT budget for the office that includes all existing IT infrastructure and proposed new IT infrastructure, including business case justifications and cost-benefit analysis for IT spending and initiatives
  • Coordinates with General Counsel/Director of Operations for procurement and renewal of the office’s cybersecurity liability insurance policy, including the technical requirements in the application; monitors cybersecurity scans completed by the insurance provider and remedies internally or with outside IT service provider

Education and Experience Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Information Systems, Informatics, Information Technology, or Computer Science, Engineering or other relevant field
  • At least five years of IT industry, operations, and management experience, preferably in an investment firm, accounting firm or law firm; minimum two years’ experience as a network/system administrator, IT manager, or IT consultant
  • May have an equivalent combination of education and/or experience in lieu of education and/or experience stated above
  • Experience must include direct interaction with business operations and knowledge of business theory, business processes, office operations, technology best practices, and budgeting
  • Proven experience in IT infrastructure strategic planning and development, project management, and policies and procedures development
  • CISSP, CISM, PMO, PMBOK, PMP, Cloud-based Application Software as a Service Certifications Preferred

Preferred Technical Skills and Knowledge:

  • Sound understanding and technical knowledge of computer systems, networks, security, telecommunications, databases, storage systems, backup solutions, and hardware
  • Understanding of information security, cybersecurity, and risk management principles, including relevant security platforms
  • Knowledge of common business operating systems including but not limited to Windows, Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, and Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of cloud-based and web-based applications generally, including but not limited to Office 365 and related technologies (i.e., SharePoint, Teams, Intune), Microsoft Entra/Azure, and Zoom
  • Knowledge of networking and related concepts, including routing, switching, wireless, LAN/WAN, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, and SMTP
  • Familiarity with NIST, ISO 27001/2, SOC2, and similar cybersecurity frameworks

  • Strong interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills, and ability to present complex and/or technical IT-related information to a non-technical audience.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Base salary and annual bonus will vary based on quality and amount of experience
