Grant Accountant

The Grant Accountant will provide accounting and financial support to the Institute for Inclusive Security, a program of Hunt Alternatives Fund and to Inclusive Security Action, a separate public charity. This support will include particular emphasis on the requirements of government grants. The position is located in Washington, DC,but reports into the Assistant Director, Finance and Tax who is located in Cambridge, MA.    This is a full-time position.

Responsibilities

Ensure that all expenses related to grants and contracts received are coded and documented correctly in the books and records of the Fund

Prepare various grant financial statements and financial reports as required under the terms of grants and contracts

Act as the primary point of contact for staff with regard to grant and contract financial requirements

  • Prepare and complete necessary schedules for Fund and Inclusive Security Action financial audits
  • Provide information regarding grant receipts and expenditures to the Operations Manager of The Institute for Inclusive Security for budgeting and planning purposes
  • Prepare and present monthly financial status reports
  • Manage travel cash advances and petty cash for the Institute and for Inclusive Security Action
  • Maintain current knowledge of all relevant financial and accounting regulations and procedures, including those applicable to government grants
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • College degree and CPArequired
  • Minimum ten years accounting experience, especially with governmental grants and contracts
  • Experience with A-122 and A-133 requirements
  • Familiarity with nonprofit accounting and legal requirements
  • Accounting for complex, non-routine transactions
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving abilities
  • Experience in small, fast-paced environment, strong work ethic and positive attitude
  • Ability to work with accounting software to address information needs, direct experience with Financial Edge preferred
  • Ability to work with Microsoft Office applications; Lotus Notes; Internet skills
  • Ability to travel to Cambridge, MA on a quarterly  basis to work with finance department
