Job Summary:

Stone Garden Group LLC is a single-family office based in Houston, TX seeking a financial controller. The assets of the family office consist of a variety of financial assets as well as ownership interests in operating businesses. The Financial Controller will oversee the family office accounting activities. This role involves ensuring the integrity of financial statements, managing budgets and forecasts, and leading the accounting team in daily operations. The successful candidate will have a solid understanding of accounting principles, strong leadership skills, and the ability to implement effective accounting procedures and information systems.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with GAAP.
• Ensure timely and accurate reporting and filing of all financial information.
• Direct and manage the company’s accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger.
• Implement and maintain internal financial controls and procedures.
• Lead budgeting and forecasting efforts, providing detailed and accurate financial projections.
• Manage cash flow and prepare cash flow forecasts in accordance with company policy.
• Mentor and develop the accounting team, managing work allocation, training, problem resolution, performance evaluation, and the building of an effective team dynamic.
• Provide strategic financial analysis and leadership on decision-making issues affecting the company.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local legal requirements, advising management on needed actions.

Skills Required:

• Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Excellent analytical, decision-making, and strategic thinking skills. Experience with acquisition due diligence and deal structuring a plus.
• Proven leadership ability with a track record of managing and developing teams.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Proficiency with accounting software and experience with a software migration or implementation a plus.
• Excellent organization and multitasking skills.

Educational and Experience Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation preferred.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role a plus.
• Previous experience as a Controller or a similar leadership role in accounting or finance is preferred.
