Family Office Controller

This Family Office is a Nashville-based family office that manages a diversified investment portfolio, including significant holdings in one of the largest American wine and spirits companies.  The Family Office is a collaborative, strategic, and dynamic enterprise. We administer two private foundations as well as several investment companies for four family members and their descendants.

The Family Office is seeking a talented, motivated, and experienced professional to fill the position of “Controller”, which reports directly to Chief Executive Officer. This position requires outstanding organizational skills, attention to detail, accounting acumen and a passion for stellar performance. The candidate must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment that is goal-oriented and emphasizes accountability for delivering results. This position is expected to require approximately 40 hours per week, with a flexible work schedule, as needed.

Mission
The mission of the Controller is to design, implement and manage a comprehensive accounting platform that maximizes the efficiency and accuracy of all reporting and bookkeeping processes of the foundations and the investment companies. The Family Office currently manages significant assets in multiple asset classes including public equities, private equity and real estate. The family office operates multiple entities that manage both for-profit and philanthropic efforts. The Controller will work directly with the Chief Executive Officer across the entire portfolio and family office, with a particular emphasis on portfolio monitoring and all back-office processes.

Specific Functions
• Design and implement a comprehensive accounting and reporting platform for the foundation and the family office, including all related entities
• Collaborate with the Chief Executive Officer to develop periodic financial reports and performance benchmarks
• Develop and manage all financial processes and procedures, including cash management, budgeting, bookkeeping and accounting
• Guide other team members in effectively and accurately executing and recording all transactions, including payables, reconciliation of bank and investment accounts, and compiling tax data
• Manage the quarterly closing process
• Interface with external tax advisors as a liaison for completing financial statements and tax returns
• Special initiatives and strategic ideas as directed, including potentially providing services to selected philanthropic partner organizations

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree (or greater) in Accounting; CPA preferred
• Minimum 10+ years’ experience in either corporate accounting/controller or public accounting setting, preferably with private client or comparable experience
• Deep knowledge and experience with potential software and reporting platforms, particularly Addepar or Solovis
• Demonstrated project management, leadership and communication skills
• Highest degree of integrity and judgement in dealing with personal and confidential financial information
