Position Summary

Camillo Holdings is seeking a Family Office Controller to help launch and oversee the financial operations of a three-person family office located in Houston, Texas.  The candidate must be a creative and effective problem solver with excellent judgment, great interpersonal skills, a high sense of urgency, and unquestioned confidentiality. Successful candidate will help manage the financial affairs of business owner’s personal family business, including property management, insurance, taxes, investment portfolio, estate planning, family trusts, and separate business enterprises. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial modeling – Prepare financial models needed to determine the valuation of company stock and help recommend the initial investments from irrevocable trusts into dynasty trusts.
  • Software implementation – Lead the effort to implement Family Office software that will help manage the consolidation of investor data, distribute timely reporting, manage communications, and provide access to data and information.  
  • Financial reporting - Preparing monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements/reports for the family. Includes personal assets/operations as well as some business entities. Prior knowledge of Quicken and QuickBooks, as well as a thorough understanding of Excel, is required.
  • Income Taxes - Preparation and submission of supporting documentation allowing CFO and outside accounting firm to prepare income tax returns. Ensure that the returns, and estimated payments, are filed both timely and accurately. Work with the Family Office CFO and outside experts to make recommendations to family that help minimize income tax liability.
  • Investments – Family investments are managed by the Operating company finance teams and outside investment management firms. The Family Office Controller must have knowledge of the operating companies and family investments and will manage the relationships with these two groups, review investment reports from Investment Managers, summarize the reports for the family and provide input, when requested, on decisions related to investments.
  • Estate Planning - Have detailed knowledge of family estate planning activities. Experience with estate planning and annual gifting is preferred. Ensure that gifting activities are performed timely and in accordance with legal requirements, including valuation of company stock and preparation of Gift Tax Returns.
  • Property, Casualty, Auto and Other Insurance - Responsible for securing appropriate insurance coverage for family members and family business entities.
  • Special projects - Assist family members and Senior Management Team Members with various special projects as required.

Abilities and Experience

  • Outstanding financial modeling skills and experience in creating pro forma analysis for estate planning initiatives.
  • Superior communication skills and ability to present complex issues with clarity.
  • A minimum 5 years of experience with a family office in roles with increasing responsibility.
  • Experience with best-of-breed Family Office software platforms & tools.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication and organizational skills.

 

Education and Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting with 6 – 8 years of relevant experience required.
  • A Masters of Business Administration (MBA) being preferred but not required.
  • Professional certification is preferred and may include CPA, CFA and CFP.
  • Demonstrated experience with accounting, financial management, financial analysis, insurance, and legal matters.
