Estate Planning, Trust & Legal Consultant

PRIMARY OBJECTIVES OF POSITION: To work collaboratively with the members of the Estate Planning, Estate Administration, Trust and Charitable teams to advise clients regarding estate planning strategies; implement estate planning decisions, coordinate services provided by outside legal counsel, review contracts, provide legal support for the Estate Planning, Estate Administration, Trust and Charitable teams. OUTCOMES: 1. To proactively manage and deepen client relationships via effective delivery of FCI’s best-in-class suite of services to clients, and partner with the Financial Consultants to ensure overall client satisfaction and engagement. 2. Provide support, guidance, and advice to clients regarding estate and charitable planning, trusts and miscellaneous legal matters. 3. Partner with all departments within the organization and external resources to achieve clients’ goals through timely communication, effective problem solving, and speed of service, while maintaining accuracy and quality in the areas of estate planning and trusts. 4. Provide legal support and guidance to the Estate Planning, Estate Administration and Trust teams, Financial Consultants and others within the organization. This includes setting priorities and ensuring deadlines are met. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Develops caring and trusting relationships with clients by proactively and consistently initiating interactions that strengthen and deepen relationships by using communication that best fits the clients’ personality, style and individual needs; and by delivering high quality, clearly-articulated and consistent advice with a high level of conviction. 2. Works with clients to understand their needs and goals related to estate planning. Presents recommendations and provides advice to meet client objectives. 3. Reviews estate planning instruments prior to execution to ensure that client objectives are met. Counsels clients regarding estate planning strategies; implements estate planning decisions, coordinates services provided by outside counsel, prepares estate planning and management reports for presentation to clients, and coordinates the administration of estates. 4. Conducts legal research and answers questions on matters pertinent to estate planning and estate and trust administration. Provides legal consultation and research for the Estate Planning, Estate Administration, Charitable and Trust teams. 5. Reviews contracts and coordinates review by outside counsel where appropriate. 6. Serves as a coordination point between legal, trust, tax, operations, client service, and other FCI departments to foster efficient execution of tasks and projects. 7. Stays current with new developments in federal and state income, gift, estate, trust and other tax matters by attending educational programs, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks and participating in professional organizations. 8. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 1. Juris Doctorate, CFP or MBA preferred. 2. Current license to practice law in the State of Washington preferred. 3. Minimum 5 years of relevant estate planning experience required (experience in financial planning is a plus).
