Director of Private Tax

We are seeking a Director of Private Tax to lead a team responsible for all tax work for the clients of a trust company, including tax compliance, tax planning and advising, tax policy, tax records, and related systems.  The Director of Private Tax ensures that the right work processes, roles and talents are in place to successfully deliver this significant body of work. This is a collaborative position that partners closely with the Private Controller, Trust Officer, Counsel, Portfolio Manager, other tax specialists and senior leadership of the trust company to stay abreast of account activity having tax implications.

The Director of Private Tax is responsible for the accuracy, quality and timeliness of all work within the tax team, including ensuring proper controls and management of the audit process.  The Director of Private Tax also plays a lead role as a stakeholder of the tax technology systems.

This is a significant leadership role in the organization. Charitable and Crown operates a private trust company that manages a sophisticated investment portfolio, financial reporting, tax compliance and other services for its clients.  Clients include individuals, partnerships, corporations, trusts and private foundations.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master of Business Administration degree OR Juris Doctor degree OR CPA required
  • 8+ years' tax work experience (compliance, planning, advising, policy)
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Accounting and/or tax experience within a family office or trust company strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of tax partnership, individual, investment fund and/or trust accounting rules
  • Experience managing vendors and outside entities, ability to build trusting business relationships
  • Exemplary personal leadership, including a will to win as a team, high level of personal accountability and learning agility
