Chief Financial Officer

Our well-established, single family office is headquartered in Chicago and has been in existence for 20 years.  The family's wealth is attributable to an operating business that was sold in 2008.  The family is comprised of two generations, the father, "Principal", and his four children, that span in age from 5 to 21. The CFO will support the Principal on a diverse set of business and personal interests along with the current 10 office employees and 18 household employees located in multiple states.  Alongside his experienced staff, the Principal utilizes the expertise of trusted consultants in the areas of tax, estate
planning, various legal matters, investment advisory, trust custody, and insurance.
 
The CFO position will support the Principal to oversee the administration of a diverse set of personal and business-related interests.  This position will provide the critical financial management needed when the person currently filling this role moves into a more limited, advisory role.
 
PRINCIPAL  RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  • Oversee two CPA' s in their duties of:
    • Coordinating tax compliance and planning for family members, trusts, investment partnerships and a private trust company with our outside accountants.
    • Trust administration including recording of income/principal cash, calculating distributions, managing cash flow, transaction review, and beneficiary reporting.
    • Accounting and administration of investment partnerships including preparation of monthly reporting, monitoring and facilitating cash movement, and maintaining files on investments.
    • Administration of private trust company including preparation of quarterly meeting materials, working with outside parties on audit and banking examinations, reporting, and monitoring activities to ensure compliance with policies and procedures, and regulations.
    • Payroll for three small entities.
    • Accounting and bill payment for various entities.
    • Tasks related to private plane administration including review of expenses submitted by aircraft management company, insurance, and calculation of SIFL.
    • Yacht administration including review of monthly accounting prepared by the yacht management company and insurance.
  • Oversee two administrative staff/bookkeepers in their duties of:
    • Reconciling credit cards for Principal and employees.
    • Accounts payable for all households and real estate.
  • Review monthly bank reconciliation for all accounts.
  • Administer pension plan including calculating quarterly contributions and working with pension administrator to meet all compliance and tax rules.
  • Provide periodic updates to balance sheet and cash flow for Principal.
  • Work with the Principal on developing the right level of reporting for his oversight of all expenses.
  • Approval of money movement for capital calls and other cash needs.
  • Work with external CIO and family office team to ensure sound investment practices and adherence to investment guidelines are maintained.
  • Work collaboratively with the to-be-hired Chief Operating Officer to ensure the smooth functioning of the office.
  • Work with COO and external estate planning advisors to periodically review and update estate planning documents including health POA, Will, and revocable trust.
 
EDUCATIONAL  QUALIFICATIONS
  • BS - Accounting with a minimum of 15 years relevant experience including investment partnership.
  • MST required.
  • CPA designation required.
 
TECHNICAL  QUALIFICATIONS
  • Strong leadership experience in working with high net worth individuals.
  • Strong understanding of and familiarity with family offices.
  • Practical experience in recruitment, selection, and supervision of professional and administrative staff.

  • Willingness and flexibility to take calls I respond to emails during evenings and weekends.
  • Must have integrity and instil confidence and trust in their abilities to handle complex and confidential matters.
 
REPORTS TO
This position reports to the Principal.
 
 
COMPENSATION
An excellent compensation package including competitive base salary, bonus, comprehensive medical, and pension plan.
Relocation if necessary.
