CFO & Controller

 

FAMOFC is a small family office located in Tucson Az whose business is to provide family members, a private family trust company (PTC), and foundation with accounting, tax compliance, cash flow management, and bill pay services. The position has broad responsibilities, flexible schedule, and interfaces closely with family members.  Will work on-site with one other administrative professional. This is a salaried position with medical, dental, vision, 401(k) and CPE benefits. Salary to be determined based on experience. 

 

 

Position DescriptCFO/Controller (Full Time, Permanent Position)

 

Tax Management (50% of workload)

Ensure tax compliance, including:

- Responsible for tax compliance and coordinate with independent tax preparer

  • Produce timely tax workpapers to support outsourced tax return preparation
  • Review tax returns for all entities; review with each taxpayer and obtain appropriate signatures
  • Confirm quarterly tax estimates and make cash flow plan to ensure timely payment including notification to family members of all taxes due and obtaining their approval of the plan to raise cash
  • Advise of tax law changes and assess strategies as they may arise

 

Accounting and Reporting (30% of workload)

Account for all transactions:

  • Manage accounting processes (account reconciliations, cash management, AP processing, K-1 and 1099 reconciliations, GL), research and reconcile cost basis discrepancies, manage investment and tax related payments for family members and entities including trusts, LLCs and partnerships
  • Maintain an organized chart of accounts; produce accurate and timely financial statements/reports
  • Produce basic financial analysis for independent investments owned by family members
  • Regularly seek guidance from family members on desired reports or other financial services needed
  • Interact with investment advisor to produce accurate accounting records

Controller & Risk Management (20% of workload)

Maintain best-practice internal controls and manage risk

  • Monitor cash balances; transfer funds as needed; calculate and process partnership distributions
  • Provide exception reporting to family when internal controls are not followed
  • Assist FAMOFC Administrator to:
    • maintain financial documentation for investments i.e., subscription agreements, redemptions, quarterly meeting materials etc.; facilitate opening of brokerage and banking accounts; cash management and bill pay for family entities, the foundation, and the PTC
    • Annually review all insurance coverage limits and recommend coverage adjustments when appropriate
    • Review and update the IT disaster recovery plan and test periodically

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Team member who works well with others
  • CPA with a minimum of 5 years’ public accounting experience, emphasis in tax
  • Exposure to investments and related investment accounting
  • Required proficiencies: QB Desktop & Online; MS Office Suite, Adobe PDF Editor
  • Excellent problem solving, organizational, and written/verbal communication skills
  • Background check required
