Business Development Associate, Private Clients

Cambridge Associates was founded in the early 1970s to assist nonprofit institutions with the investment of their endowment assets.  Today, we provide investment management, financial planning and proprietary capital markets research to over 1,000 clients including nonprofit institutions, private clients (families) and pension plans.  The firm advises on assets in all asset categories, including equities, bonds, non-US investments, real estate, venture capital, hedge funds, leveraged buyout funds, oil and gas partnerships, and many other types of investments.  We monitor the performance of nearly all major institutional investment managers and provide an advanced monitoring service for our clients to evaluate alternative assets managers such as venture capital and private equity.

Position Overview:

At Cambridge Associates, we have been advising families for more than 30 years and currently work with more than 250 private clients across the globe. The Business Development Associate will be a key member of both the global business development and private client teams at Cambridge Associates.  This position requires collaboration with members of the global business development team, investment directors within the private client practice, the private client practice leadership team and other members of senior management. This position requires significant proposal writing skill and interpersonal skills to interface with investment teams and senior management of the firm as well as with prospective and existing clients.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Field calls with prospective clients and qualify leads
  • Research prospect background to better understand prospect needs and challenges, competition, appropriate service/pricing approach
  • Work collaboratively with lead investment directors and other members of the business development team to manage the end-to-end business development process.  Coordinate workflow and outreach to active prospects in partnership with investment directors
  • Work with investment teams to develop an approach to winning specific new business opportunities 
  • Develop compelling PowerPoint materials to support meetings and finalist pitches with prospective clients, leveraging content library and preparing custom exhibits and slides
  • Draft custom proposals, letters, and other prospect and client communications
  • Coordinate sales pitch rehearsals with investment teams to ensure effective sales discussions
  • Host prospective clients in office and attend meetings where appropriate
  • Assist in managing the private client business development pipeline and the tracking of metrics and trends related to our business development efforts for the practice.  Make sure all prospect information is maintained in CA’s CRM system
  • Assist in identifying reasons for wins and losses, lessons learned, and work to enhance marketing/sales best practices and improve overall hit rates
  • Participate in strategic/long-term efforts related to the private client business

 

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS and 2-6 years of proposal writing experience
  • Prior experience in the financial services industry preferred
  • Very strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and to prioritize responsibilities
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, which includes the ability to be a team player and partner effectively with others in a team-oriented environment
  • Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Prior marketing and industry experience preferred
  • Basic understanding of capital markets and key investment terms
  • Demonstrated understanding of private clients
  • Candidate must commit to passing the Series 3 exam within the first three months of employment (tutorials and study materials are provided)
  • Must be eligible to work without sponsorship or restriction in the US
