Accounting Manager
This is an opportunity to join a dynamic team supporting a philanthropically-minded Ultra-High-Net-Worth family in a Single Family Office (SFO). The objective of our SFO is implementing efficient processes that allow the Principals to pursue their highest purposes, including transforming mental health outcomes through their philanthropic work as well as allowing them to focus on their careers as an award-winning author and a CEO of a public company. The SFO addresses topics for the Principals including philanthropy, investments, budgets and concierge services. We are a small, highly collaborative team that values hard work, accountability, patience, grace and humor.
We are looking for someone who can roll up their sleeves across a variety of tasks and domains, is an excellent team player with strong interpersonal skills, and is highly resourceful and flexible. An ability to follow through and communicate the status of assigned work is critical. Other qualities that are key to success in this role include adaptability, strong initiative and follow through, and a service mindset. This role collaborates with outside partners including tax, accounting and legal teams.
We are located in San Mateo and currently have a hybrid work schedule. Employees are in the office on Wednesday plus one or two other days per week.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the CFO to oversee our outsourced accounting team.
- Review and approve all invoices, monitor trends and highlight unusual or missing transactions.
- Key contact for month-end close. Support of outsourced accountants to collect statements, reports or provide access to systems to assist them in month-end close.
- Own the quarterly spending forecast process for the Family and the Family Office.
- Develop a 12 month cash flow forecast.
- Review actual vs forecast results, write narratives and review with Principals.
- Manage funding and monitor bank account balances.
- Own expense report process and systems.
- Maintain analysis framework for Family and Office credit cards.
- Ongoing management of credit lines.
- Other responsibilities as assigned. (This is part of the fun of the job.)
Qualifications
- 7+ years experience
- Understanding of accounting
- Experience with forecasting and analysis
- Able to work in both Office and Google productivity suites, familiarity with tools like Slack, AirTable and password managers are useful
- Strong work ethic: "get stuff done"
- Takes ownership and follows through
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or equivalent experience
- Demonstrated ability for critical thinking
- Excellent project management skills and attention to detail
