Accounting Director

We are seeking an Accounting Director to lead a team responsible for all financial accounting and reporting for the clients of a private trust company. Clients include individual family members, partnerships, corporations, trusts, and private foundations. This is a significant leadership role in the organization and we are looking for someone who is not just an expert in their field, but also brings a high level of personal leadership. This is a manager of managers’ role and reports directly to the COO. 

The Accounting Director is expected to lead beyond his/her role, demonstrating a high degree of personal leadership and mentoring others. The controller is also the business partner responsible for the financial technology systems. THIS POSITION IS RESPONSIBLE FOR:

  • Lead the preparation of monthly financial statements and annual financial reporting
  • Lead the development of annual expenditure budgets and financial forecast for the company and its clients
  • Oversee the budget and risk management
  • Oversee investment partnership accounting
  • Maintain accuracy, quality and timeliness of all financial data including ensuring proper controls and management of audit process
  • Foster a highly engaged, positive, collaborative work culture and have direct accountability to coach and lead the accounting team members

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS - required for this role:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 10+ years of accounting or tax experience
  • Minimum 5 years prior people management experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - You will stand out if you have:

  • Certified Public Accountant
  • Accounting and/or tax experience within a family office or trust company
  • Master of business administration degree
  • Strong understanding of tax partnership, investment fund and/or trust accounting rules
  • Experience in risk management, managing vendors and outside entities, ability to build trusting business relationships
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products
  • Exemplary personal leadership, including a will to win as a team, high level of personal accountability and learning agility
  • Strong interpersonal savvy and relationship building skills. Strong customer-focus and collaborative approach to work
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to effectively communicate complex material in a concise and understandable way to a variety of audiences
