Overview

The Company was founded by a group of senior executives from global alternative asset managers and technology firms. The founders’ collective experience totals more than 100 years in senior roles at leading financial services and technology companies. The team includes the marketing talent that built the developed the user growth strategy for Motley Fool and Angie’s List.

The Company is a FinTech organization whose primary purpose is to educate consumers on a myriad of personal finance topics, while supporting consumers with a network of financial professionals and a boutique suite of income-related products. The Company has two businesses — a personal finance education website, and affiliated wholesale broker-dealer, member of FINRA / SIPC. They provide access to institutional asset managers and distributes alternative and income-focused products to financial advisors throughout the U.S. The Company also provides asset managers with market intelligence, product structuring, education and end-to-end investment processing capabilities.

Later in 2019, the Company will launch a consumer-facing online platform focused on personalized financial education and best-in-class tools to create a dynamic community of consumers, professionals and firms that will share ideas for boosting income — and creating smarter, more well-informed consumers. We will educate consumers about alternative investments, career planning and personal finance — and offer consumers a matching service to our Professional Marketplace, where individuals can be matched up with financial advisors, accountants, insurance agents and more.

For the online platform, revenues are derived primarily through subscriptions 8-12% of registered users expected to subscribe @ $10/mo. for Platinum Service; also, referral fees, listing fees and a small amount of advertising. The Wholesale B/D earns fees primarily through commissions on distribution volume and from sharing management and incentive fees with the asset manager.

About the Family

The Alder Group was formed in 2012 by Patrick Gahan as a 1st generation Multi-Family office with the combined wealth and knowledge of the Gahan, Kolb and Chatterjee families. The families primarily have backgrounds in finance, tech and intellectual property. The Gahan family sold a cyber security business in 2010, The Kolb and Chatterjee families have had multiple exits in tech and IP businesses.

The families have strong ties to philanthropy with a desire to help kids that receive heart transplant live long, healthy, and normal lives. Patrick and his wife started a charity called Enduring Hearts that is projected to fund research at the $10M/year level by 2021. The Alder Group has been an active supporter of this cause as well as several others. More recently the Alder Group has focused on direct investments in the single-family real estate as well as a variety of other hard asset backed investments, as well as early stage venture and opportunistic and high-income investing.

The typical practice of the Alder Group is to invest its own funds first to prove out business models and then expand the operations with more general managed investor funds or direct partnerships with other families.
