Light weighting steel alloy for the transportation industry

Overview

The Company is an advanced materials company specializing in the design and commercialization of patented steels with exceptional mechanical properties derived from their nano-scale microstructure. The Company’s primary focus is proprietary alloys for use as sheet steel in automotive and railcar light-weighting applications to improve efficiency and increase revenue generating payload capacity while maintaining strict safety standards.

The Company was founded in 2002 to commercialize patented steel alloys developed through research at the U.S. Department of Energy's Idaho National Laboratory (INL) and has created an extensive portfolio of over 325 patents filed and/or granted worldwide. The Company succeeded in producing its commercial scale product with its initial steel producing partners and has begun delivering material to railcar companies for full-scale retrofit & new vehicles production, and automakers for qualification testing. The Company is supported through venture funding including its strategic investors (automotive OEM, automotive tier one).

SPDG has invested early 2017, for the following reasons: the quality of the management, the distinctiveness of the alloys which can drive significant impact over trnasporation industry at large (up to 30% weight reduction of vehicles) and the licensing business model which makes it capex light and generates a recurring streams of revenues. The Company is raising its last round of capital and SPDG is looking for like minded family office to join the round.
