Overview

Wednesday, Mar 29, 2023 - 05:00am
Wednesday, Mar 29, 2023 - 06:00am

Please join us on Wednesday, March 29, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am CT, for a live interactive webcast with FOX members and subject matter experts.

In 2022 Dr. Jamie Weiner published The Quest for Legitimacy: How Children of Prominent Families Find Their Place in the World, a collection of qualitative research modeling rites of passage, pathways to individuation, creating trusted partnerships, and addressing family dynamics. Similarly, in 2022 FOX has conducted focus groups and a rising gen study, which affirms what we know about rising gen, and illuminates the methods to ensuring success and fulfillment.

In this discussion, Dr. Weiner and FOX Chief Learning Officer Mindy Kalinowski Earley will discuss what we can learn from the data and how we can collectively assist the rising generation. We invite rising gen, family leaders, family office staff and advisors to join this discussion.

By the end of this webcast, attendees will be able to:

  • Identify key challenges and dynamics affecting the rising generation.
  • Examine qualitative research about the rising gen from FOX studies and Dr. Weiner's extensive collection.

    Co-Founder, Quest for Legitimacy

Jamie Weiner, a psychologist, is co-founder of Quest for Legitimacy, a groundbreaking model for successfully navigating the unique struggle of growing up in a prominent family.

Along with Russ Haworth, a family business adviser, a series of intimate conversations with Rising Gen from around the world started with one simple question; “What is it like growing up in the land of giants?”  After researchers from the University of Adelaide in Australia analyzed the conversations, The Quest for Legitimacy: How Children of Prominent Families Find Their Unique Place in the World  brought the stories to life.

Moving forward, their mission is to support the Rising Generation in prominent families from around the globe to successfully navigate their “Quest” by helping them reduce their isolation, achieve agency, and discover the true contribution they can make in the world.

Jamie is also the co-founder of Inheriting Wisdom with his wife, Carolyn Friend, Psy.D. Together they work on all the problems that exist behind the money or family businesses. Activating families to become high-performance families is their sweet spot. The Legacy Conversation: the missing gem in wealth planning was co-authored by Jamie and Carolyn. Jamie is a fellow of the Family Firm Institute (FFI) where he has served on the global board and chaired the editorial board of the FFI Practitioner, an online publication. In 2018, the first article, “In the Land of Giants: Redefining Rites of Passage” appeared in this publication.

Spending his life focused on what promotes different populations to “rise” above their circumstances, Jamie draws from a diversity of experiences. He is an innovator.  Early in his career he experimented with taking adolescent psychiatric patients to see cultural events. For Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Jamie developed a support group for victims and their families that was implemented throughout the State of Illinois. At Cook County Jail, Jamie developed a six-session group that was used with the residential treatment unit of the jail. Throughout Jamie’s career, he has maintained a private practice.

“Rising” the theme of his recent book is an active process, it is a quest.
