The Case for Meeting In-Person

The Case for Meeting In-Person

FOX offers a number of learning events throughout the year. Some, like our webinars, are online, while others, like our annual FOX Fall Forum, are in person. Both have distinct advantages. Online learning is convenient and more readily available. It is easier to fit into your workday.

In person events require more of an investment, but they are also generally more rewarding. They are more interactive, allowing attendees to better engage with the speakers and the learning materials. In fact, it’s often during the unplanned portion of a session that you gain the most perspective. Q&A sessions gives attendees a chance to take the content, internalize it, and ask an expert how to pertain the knowledge to their own situation.

Of course, the most obvious reason is to see people face-to-face, to network and share ideas with your peers. So much is said through body language that is missed when you aren’t engaging face to face.

The energy and knowledge shared both during and outside of the conference sessions are invaluable. The peer discussions during breaks, meals and receptions can be a valuable part of your in-person learning experience. For example, the Forum social functions often provide an opportunity to find out others’ opinions on the sessions and how they will incorporate their learning into their operations, client relationships or family.

There is also an inherent bonding with your fellow attendees that cannot be underestimated. The next time you have a question about how another family office executive handles a situation you are dealing with back in the office, you might feel more comfortable reaching out via email or the FOX list serve for a response. And you look forward that much more to the next time you can meet with your extended FOX family at the next in-person event.
